As well as updates on my writing projects, this blog is as varied as my own stories. I write in historical fiction, (like The Hawkers Road Series, set in outback Queensland in the 1880s), to contemporary crime, fantasy, fairytales, and magic realism.
You’ll find out about my main character in The Hawkers Road Series, Bridie Cassidy, who dreams at night of Ireland and soft, sweet rain. You might also find her mother’s recipe for a sweet version of Irish Potato cake, and a recipe for a delicious Punjabi curry from her Indian friend, Chandra. And fear not, I taste-testing recipes in my own kitchen, just to make sure they’re worth sharing.
Join me, as I reveal what inspires me to write over a wide range of genres, and how growing up on my beloved, windswept Flinders Island shaped my view of the world, and the particular stories I want to tell. I’ll share titbits of historical research that I’ve unearthed during my plunge down the rabbit hole.

You will find my award-winning story Smooth here, available to you for free. I hope you enjoy it. Smooth won the 2024 GenreCon Short Story Award and was read out by none other than the incredibly talented writer, Patrick Ness, the Keynote Speaker for GenreCon that year.
When you sign up for my Exploring Worlds newsletter, you will also be able to read another of my award-winning stories Capeweed, for free. I hope you like that one, too. Capeweed won the 2024 Sisters In Crime Scarlet Stiletto Award, for the category of ‘Most Satisfying Retribution.’
What won’t you get if you sign up for my blog?
One thing you won’t get is spammed. I love my privacy and I know you love yours, too. For that reason, I won’t bombard you several times a week, or even several times a month, with emails that seem to be only advertising. Instead, you will hear from me once a month. If I have something exciting to tell you, I’ll make an extra post within that same month.
I hope you’ll come along on this great adventure I’ve found myself in, and I hope you find yourself getting excited about the same things I do.
Anytime you want to say goodbye to me and my stories, just hit the unsubscribe button. There will be no hard feelings, I promise. I’ll just write you into a story and then write you out… 😉
